Welcome to the Alpine Garden Society

The Cotswold and Malvern Alpine Garden Society are now holding their regular monthly meetings at Hartpury Village Hall. The meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month, with the exception of January, July and August. The group invites a range of expert speakers to share their knowledge of alpine plants from all over the world. Meetings start at 7.30 pm with a talk, followed by plant sales, coffee and a raffle. The programme for 2025-26 is available here. A seasonal cumulative points competition is held where members can bring plants for display, which are judged at each meeting. Members are also encouraged to bring plants to the meeting for sale. Annual membership costs £14 (single) or £18 (joint), but visitors are also welcome to attend group meetings.

Although alpine plants have evolved to survive at altitudes above the tree line, many of them are able to grow and thrive in our gardens with very little attention. Often these plants have been planted out in rock gardens to mimic their native environments. Specialist nurseries include Hoo House Nursery in Tewkesbury, where there is a very good collection and where the staff are always happy to give advice.
